“Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment is today’s ‘gold standard’ for achieving a flawless complexion. It is non-invasive, quick, and requires essentially no downtime.”

The skin you were born with was smooth, soft, flawless, and supple. If you are like most people, as the decades pass and you reach your 30s and 40s you began to notice the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and the dreaded brown “age spots”. Your skin’s texture becomes coarser, your pores larger and your complexion is uneven, blotchy, and etched with tiny broken capillaries on your cheeks and around your nose. As we age, sun, stress, smoke, heredity, and hormones take their toll on the body’s single largest organ, our skin. Photorejuvenation utilizes Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), a State-of-the-art laser like technology designed to treat signs of photo-aging and helps restore youthful skin inside and out.

Photorejuvenation improves:

  • Sun-damage
  • Freckles
  • Age spots
  • Spider veins
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Broken capillaries
  • Facial veins
  • Redness, flushing and rosacea
  • Fine lines around the eyes, lips, and forehead
  • Acne and Acne scarring
  • Unwanted Hair

IPL Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the treatments like?

Treatment times vary from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. First, the treated area is cleansed and a cool gel is applied. Special goggles are worn during the treatment to protect the eyes from the intense pulses of light. As the pulses of light are delivered to the skin, the sensation is similar to a snap of a rubber band. Topical numbing cream is usually applied 30 minutes prior to each treatment and patients typically feel little or no discomfort. After treatments, the skin is cleansed and a sunscreen is applied. You can resume normal activities immediately. Over a period of 3- 10 days, sun spots or freckles will darken and then flake off.

What conditions can be treated with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) ?

Treatments fade sun damage including age spots, facial veins, melasma, blotchy skin discoloration, acne, rosacea, and spider veins. Treatments can be performed anywhere on your body but the most common areas treated are the face, chest, hands, arms, and shoulders.

How does the treatment work?

An intense light is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light passes through the skin and is absorbed by targeted abnormalities such as dilated vessels, age spots, or other forms of unsightly pigmentation. The heat causes damage to the lesion, and the body begins its natural healing process. The lesion will darken before it flakes off or the body absorbs it. Treatments can be performed as frequently as every three weeks.

Are there any possible side effects?

Side effects are rare. Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear flushed; brown pigmented spots may appear darker; and capillaries may be temporarily more visible. In rare instances, temporary swelling and/or blistering can occur. If blistering does occur, it will usually heal without leaving a scar as long as the area is kept moist with an ointment such as Polysporin. If necessary, camouflage makeup can be used to conceal any discoloration which usually resolves within a week. After IPL therapy, it is important to wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 or greater to treated areas, as the sun can interfere with the healing process.

How many treatments are usually required?

For best results, a series of 3 to 6 treatments scheduled three to four weeks apart are usually required. Follow-up treatments may be desired once a year to maintain results.
